Hong Kong, China 2019

On June 9th, 2019, more than a million people marched through the streets of Hong Kong in protest of a controversial extradition bill - a law that would have allowed the extradition of Hong Kong criminals and fugitives to mainland China where they would be tried and prosecuted. This was perceived as yet another controlling factor over the people of Hong Kong, further tightening China’s grip on the autonomous region.

Since then, the protests morphed into a broader pro-democracy movement - including other demands such as universal suffrage and an enquiry into police brutality.
